About TB Free Chennai

In partnership with the organization Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) India, AA&D works to support local public sector partners bringing rigor and innovation to Chennai for the prevention, detection and treatment of tuberculosis. 

Key focus points in Chennai include:

  • active case finding centered on the community and households

  • improved diagnosis techniques in line with national reforms

  • moving toward treatment of all forms of the disease

  • innovative fundraising and partnerships, from local to international levels

  • supporting the TB strategy led by the Municipal Corporation of Chennai

National Institute for Research
in Tuberculosis (NIRT)

The National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, a permanent Institute under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is an internationally recognized institution in Tuberculosis (TB) research. It is a Supranational Reference Laboratory and WHO Collaborating Centre for TB Research and Training. NIRT constitutes the data and research core of the Chennai partnership.

REACH

For over 15 years, REACH has engaged with private providers of TB care in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to provide high quality therapy in line with national standards. Dr. Nalini Krishnan has extensive experience through REACH and other public and private roles in expanding access to care for TB in Chennai, and in providing crucial social supports to those affected by TB.

The Municipal Corporation of Chennai

This initiative has been led and sustained from the planning phases through early implementation by the Municipal Corporation of Chennai and its City Health Office. Working in tandem with local and international civil society and global health organizations, NIRT, and local stakeholders, the Municipal Corporation is the key "convening agent" for the work in Chennai.
